Switch Engineer

The successful candidate will be responsible for Engineering projects for all central office switches deployed by Copper Valley Telephone Cooperative. Other duties will include supporting the following areas: Operations, Maintenance, Provisioning, & Network administration. Additionally, the Switch Engineer will be responsible for supporting ancillary equipment systems interfaced to Central Office switches such as Wireless telephony applications, Voice Mail, DLC, DSL and 911 systems; planning, design & engineering of ASR’s and special transport designs; maintenance of office records, perform trunk traffic studies and recommendations for adding equipment.

Experience with Nortel DMS-10, Nortel 1500 soft switch or MetaSwitch a plus. The Switch Engineer will interface daily with the C.O. Network Operations group in the coordination of work schedules.

Educational Requirements: Associate degree in Communications Technology, or the equivalent, plus 7 years previous experience in Central Office; education requirement may be substituted for post-secondary or equivalent work experience. Knowledge of VOIP, SS7, AFC or Occam Access is required.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Telephone Plant Superintendent

Copper Valley Telephone seeks a full-time Plant Superintendent to manage and oversee day to day operations, installation and maintenance of the outside plant, service order and repair operations. A solid background in telephony operations with focus on OSP and customer care is required. Working knowledge of RUS specifications, NEC and NESC codes is required. This is a first line management level position which requires the individual to be a team player, role model for his/her work group, regularly exercise discretion, independent judgment and creativity in the performance of his/her duties, with particular emphasis on maintaining the highest level of service quality and reliability. The right person will be a “Can Do, Get It Done” individual. This is an exempt, salaried position, based in Valdez, Alaska.
